Committed to Craftmanship
While it might not always be obvious, the details included in the built environment at Southall are intended to honor the land that serves us, the ever-inspiring expertise of our team, the remarkable talent that surrounds us here in Middle Tennessee, and of course, the ingenuity, grit, and timeless craftsmanship of the generations who came before.
You might see it in the natural materials—a hand-hewn beam, a glazed clay plate from a potter’s wheel—that were responsibly harvested on this farm or from one nearby. You’ll notice it in the art on the walls, in an iron fire pit, in the furniture, a sleek stainless rotisserie, or a stacked-stone wall. It could be a century-old millstone, or an ice cream maker driven by an old John Deere hit-and-miss engine that a hundred years ago powered the tractor that farmed this land.
The luxury of time allowed us an opportunity to be mindful about how we showcase local artisans, current and past, and to have them work their magic into the Southall experience. All of it was created and curated with a purpose—to do the job well, certainly, but also one small way we can acknowledge and honor a job well done.
