Field Tour + Tasting

Stroll through the rows of our production fields or the kitchen gardens with members of our farm and culinary team and taste what’s in season during this engaging walking tour.

Indoor Growing Spaces Tour
$50 | 1 HOUR
Come learn about how Greener Roots Farm, the first commercial scale hydroponic vertical farm, grows herbs and leafy greens indoors year-round and supplies them to local establishments. All the produce is pesticide, herbicide, and GMO free and travels less than 50 miles from farm to fork.

Everything Starts with a Seed Tour

Gather at the Processing Barn to learn about our seed starting experience. Then, enjoy a tour of Southall’s Propagation and Orangerie Greenhouses.

Grafting Class
$50 PER PERSON | 1 HOUR
Take this opportunity to learn about the history and of apple tree grafting and see first had how we have implemented it here at Southall. At Southall we love finding creative ways to grow and we would love to teach you how to as well.

Ready, Set, Grow!

Join an experienced Southall farmer for that gardening class you’ve been looking for! We will offer seasonal classes throughout the year—for spring, we will cover topics such as bed preparations, what to plant during this season, how to manage weeds, generalized gardening tips, and soil health. Every class ends with a gardening Q&A.

Orchard Tour
$50 PER PERSON | 1 HOUR
A brief but thorough introduction to the workings of our orchard. Including type of orchard, varieties, unique qualities, and many uses of our apples.

Beeswax Candle Making Class
$50 | 1 HOUR
Candle making class. Get ready to show off your creativity while you roll, decorate, and perfect the perfect taper candle to take with you before you depart from Southall.

Honey Harvest Party
$75 PER PERSON | 1 HOUR
Join our beekeeper in the processing barn as we extract fresh honey from our property’s beehives! Participants will learn how our bees produce award winning honey and how best to extract this “liquid gold” without damaging valuable honeycombs. Each guest will get a turn slicing open the honeycomb, cranking our manual extractor, and bottling a jar. You may even get to taste fresh honey as it flows out of the extractor! This will be a sticky situation in all the best ways. No live bees or suits required

Bee Cruise
$75 PER PERSON | 1 HOUR
Buzz around the farm with a beekeeper learning about our unique pollination program and the essential role all pollinators play in agriculture and on our working farm. Taste award-winning honey and learn new and interesting ways to save our bees.

Native Bee Experience
$75 PER PERSON | 1 HOUR
Learn about the world of native bees as we discuss what they are, how they impact life on the farm, and how you can help! Each person will leave the discussion with a better understanding of how to create a native bee habitat in their own backyard. Seasonally, we will examine live native bees and their cocoons as a group.

Guided Apiary Tour
$150 PER PERSON | 2 HOURS
Go behind the scenes with our beekeeper on a private guided tour of Southall’s apiaries! Don your very own beekeeping suit, take a selfie, and get ready to fire up the smoker. Guests will get the chance to open up a live beehive, experience what it’s like to be a beekeeper, and taste our award-winning honey right out of the hive.

Plein Air Painting
$100 PER PERSON | 2-3 HOURS
Artist Anne Goetze resides on a small farm in the countryside outside of Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee. Her cherished subject matter features the rural life and landscape of middle Tennessee. She will be walking all attendees, whether they be beginner, intermediate, or expert artist, through the painting style of Plein Air. Attendees will have a painting easel and materials set up at the property’s creek near the covered bridge as they take in their glorious surroundings and express their view through a painting to take with them as a memento of their time at Southall.
Plein Air painting literally means “painting in the open air.” It is an expression of one’s surroundings, and Anne will guide participants step by step on how to express their own interpretations.
