Eddie Miles
Senior Vice President of Development
The pursuit of a degree in philosophy at Belmont University first called Eddie Miles to Nashville from his native Ocoee, Tennessee. As a student, he worked construction to pay for college, ultimately becoming a trim carpenter and cabinet maker. After college he was offered a project management position in the early ‘90s with Crane Builders, a leading custom contractor in the high-end Nashville residential market.
Seven years later, he established his own company and has been working as a general contractor ever since. One of the homes he’d built in Williamson County was purchased by Southall Founder Paul Mishkin, and a friendship was born. Mishkin and his family were looking for farmland where they could garden and came across some land just south of Franklin. The land was beautiful but more than they were looking to farm, so they discussed other options for the property. That was in 2015, and the vision for Southall grew from there.
Since then, Miles has worked closely with neighbors and community leaders to articulate the project, gain necessary approvals, and see the permitting process through to completion. He points out that previous proposals for the property had included a sea of storage units, and large-scale residential development, all allowed under the current zoning.
Southall is a point of personal pride for him—preserving the agricultural legacy of Williamson County through a sustainable working farm and luxury resort, while maintaining 97 percent of the property as green space and creating high-paying jobs and clean tourism-based tax revenue for the county’s collective benefit.
In his role as Managing Partner of Old Hillsboro Building Company, Miles is overseeing the construction of the site work, cottages, event center, and other components of Southall set to be unveiled in 2022. The result will be a property well positioned to sustain itself for generations and provide endless opportunities for joy and wonder for lifetimes to come.
