Our Mission

Our mission at Southall Farm and Inn is to create a sustainable sanctuary rooted in the healing powers of the earth where today’s visitors and visitors for generations to come, renew their hearts, souls, minds and bodies by reconnecting with nature through authentic farm centered experiences in Franklin, Tennessee.

Our Beginning

For Paul and Laura Mishkin, it all began as a very simple idea. “We only knew we wanted land. My wife, Laura, was a dietitian and has always been passionate about giving back in good ways,” Paul explains. “We wanted to grow really great vegetables and fruits and donate whatever we couldn’t consume.” The Mishkins decided to retain the name “Southall” for their property, honoring its history. “That was the farm’s name before we arrived, so why change that?”

2016

The first phase of Southall Farm started in 2016. Working with best-in-class farm designers and architects, the Mishkins created a farming environment of which they were quite proud. Their simple idea had evolved into high-quality production farming and state-of-the-art greenhouses. The land was beautiful, and neighbors’ interest was piqued.

“After a few years, we decided we wanted to build on our land, maybe adding a bed and breakfast,” Paul explains. “We consulted with Franklin’s Visitors Bureau, asking what this area needed.” The bureau’s wish list included a luxury spa and resort. Planning for the next chapter took several years, and the ground breaking for what would become Southall Inn took place right before the pandemic began – delaying the opening date and driving up costs.

2025

Today, Paul and Laura are thrilled to have two of their three children, David and Elyse, here in Franklin, working side-by-side with them on the farm. Paul says, “We feel fortunate every day we spend walking the property, seeing its growth through the eyes and hearts of our children, delivered by a very talented team, equally passionate about building the future of Southall.”

Our Future

Nearly a decade after Paul and Laura Mishkin began planting the seeds of Southall Farm and Inn, CEO, Kama Carter is leading the way forward. “Everyone here feels like an extension of the family,” Kama says. “We believe in their mission and plan to continue to help them build and grow.” The shared vision: 30 years from now the property will continue to drive innovation, sustainability, and relevancy as a sought-after, top-of-class destination. “We hope to inspire and delight guests from near and far, and cultivate meaningful memories that last their lifetimes.”
